Requiem pro Lagopus Muta
Monument
2022 - ongoing
In many parts of the planet, the undisturbed development of many animal species has become critical due to climatic changes and increasing tourism. If nothing changes in the currently rapidly advancing climate change, the snow grouse living in Tyrol will also be threatened with extinction in the near future.
We are paying attention to this fact and, as part of the KÖR Tirol exhibition program of the Tiroler Künstler:innenschaft, together with local snow grouse experts, a composer and a regional choir, we have created a requiem based on the call of the snow grouse and its living environment. The composition was performed for the first time in the fall of 2022 in the valley station of the Patscherkofelbahn near Innsbruck. Instead of a physical monument in public space, a living monument was created.
A contrasting monument was created in the man-made concrete infrastructure of the mountain railroad, which intrudes into the habitat of this endangered species, which is characterized not by its materiality, but by living memory and re-enactment.
